Methodology

The Satoshi Price Index (SPI) tracks the average change over time in prices paid by urban consumers for a basket of goods and services. SPI converts these prices into satoshis, offering a unique perspective on inflation and price trends relative to Bitcoin.

Bitcoin Price Calculation

The average Bitcoin price is calculated using the following formula:

(open + high + low + close) / 4 = Average monthly USD price

This formula provides the average price of Bitcoin on the 1st of every month, ensuring a consistent basis for comparison across different time periods. We then use this value and convert to satoshis:

1 BSV / Average monthly USD Price * 100,000,000 satoshis / BSV = satoshis/USD

Historical Price Calculation

The historical price of each good or service is calculated by using the BSV price for the corresponding CPI month.

(USD CPI Price) * (1 BSV/USD Price that month) * ( 1,000,000 satoshis / BSV)

Example calculation for satoshi price of Bacon in August, 2024, bacon was $6.785 $/lb and BSV was $43.93:

($6.785) * (1 BSV / $43.93) * (100,000,000 satoshis / BSV) = 15,444,755 satoshis

Dollar Cost Average (DCA) Calculator

The Dollar Cost Average (DCA) calculator allows users to input a starting date and an amount of Bitcoin purchased each month. The calculator returns the total Bitcoin accumulated and the percentage gained or lost compared to the US dollar.
